Traces of Unliving series comprised three works: Where the countless stars live, Lukewarm breath, Heartbeats I collected

Each work translates embodied experience into fragmented moments of life, exploring the blurred boundary between living and dying.

Where the countless stars live consist nineteen photographs of different navels, marks engraved  on our bodies by our mothers, revealing our very first connection to life. Each navel printed at the size of identity card photo, referencing the annual visa renewals, where one must repeatedly prove where one comes from in order to remain.

Imagining a passport photo that does not depict a face but a navel, the work  focus on a shared bodily trace that preceeds nationality.  Shifting the inquiry from personal embodiment to the political demand of proof, the work foregrounds the body as a physical trace of existence.

Heartbeats I collected begins with sleepless nights, when the relentless sound of heart within the body refuses rest. In this moment the act of collecting heartbeats emerge. From this persistent vibrations, heartbeat gathers not as a measurable units, but as a trace of fragile thereshold, where life insists on itself and mortality quietly echoes beneath.

Where the countless stars live는 열아홉 명의 배꼽을 포착한 사진들로 구성된다. 배꼽은 어머니가 우리 몸에 각인한 첫 흔적이자 흉터이며, 생명과 맺었던 가장 근원적인 연결을 증언한다. 증명사진 규격으로 출력된 흑백사진들은 체류 자격을 얻기 위해 매년 얼굴과 출신을 끊임없이 증명해야 하는 비자 연장의 행정적 절차를 환기한다.

얼굴 대신 배꼽이 담긴 여권 사진을 상상하며, 작업은 국적이나 제도의 명명 이전에 존재하는 보편적 신체의 흔적에 주목한다. 질문의 축을 개인의 신체적 경험에서 제도적 증명의 요구라는 정치적 영역으로 확장하며, 신체를 물리적인 삶과 존재의 구체적 흔적으로 전면에 내세운다.

Heartbeats I collected는 몸 내부에서 쉴 새 없이 뛰는 심장소리로가 귀전으로 울려 퍼져 잠들지 못하는 어두운 밤들로부터 출발한다. 이 불면의 순간은 심장박동을 수집하는 행위의 시작점이 된다. 집요하게 이어지는 이 진동 속에서 심장소리는 단순한 측정 수치나 단위에 머물지 않는다. 그것은 생존을 끈질기게 주장하는 신체와 죽음(mortality)의 가능성이 조용히 공명하는 위태로운 '사이의 경계'를 차곡차곡 쌓아간다.
